Process + Express
Process + Express is an open-level, interdisciplinary workshop that blends creative writing, facilitated dialogue, and embodied movement practices to support personal reflection, creative expression, and community connection. Rooted in HOLDTIGHT’s artistic process, the workshop offers participants an accessible entry point into interdisciplinary creation using body, voice, language, and imagination. Process + Express is created and led by HOLDTIGHT Artistic Director Gwendolyn Gussman. Process + Express was established 2022 and Gussman has taught over 35 iterations between NYC and Colorado.
Each workshop is organized around an eco-psychological theme, drawing connections between personal experience, collective life, and the natural world. Participants are guided through a structured yet gentle arc that includes grounding introductions, curated readings from poets, writers, and climate thinkers, creative writing prompts, group sharing, somatic awareness practices, and guided improvisational movement. Live music is often incorporated, creating a multi-sensory environment that deepens presence and emotional resonance.
Process + Express is designed for people of all backgrounds and abilities, including those new to movement, artists seeking new creative tools, and individuals interested in reflection, healing, or community engagement. The workshop prioritizes physical accessibility, choice-based participation, and trauma-aware facilitation, allowing participants to engage at their own comfort level. All are welcome.
Outcomes of the workshop include increased self-awareness, creative confidence, embodied connection, and a strengthened sense of belonging. Participants leave with tangible creative material, new expressive tools, and a deeper understanding of how their lived experiences connect to broader social and ecological systems. Process + Express fosters empathy, curiosity, and meaningful dialogue, reinforcing HOLDTIGHT’s commitment to art as a catalyst for connection and transformation
