"mother : un/tethered" Film Screening
Join HOLDTIGHT on Thursday, September 24th 2026, for a screening of our latest film project, mother : un/tethered.
This film completes HOLDTIGHT's un/tethered trilogy with a genre-defying art-documentary exploring motherhood, the female body, and humanity's relationship to the Earth. The film is the third and final installment of HT's un/tethered trilogy, a body of work four years in the making that has brought together hundreds of Coloradans in exploration of our collective ties to one another and the natural world.
Sie FilmCenter, Denver, CO in Movie House 1
Thursday, September 24th, 2026
6:15pm Pre-Screening Lobby Hang, Film Screening around 7pm
Film Synopsis:
mother : un/tethered tells the story of three women, three phases of motherhood, and the paradox of holding grief and joy alongside beauty and hardship when it comes to mothering.
Part art-documentary, part dance film, mother : un/tethered follows three female artists, Bailey Harper, Chelsea Retzloff, and Divya Maus, as they navigate deeply personal relationships to motherhood across the birth, life, and death cycle. Through evocative movement, original music, singing, and intimate interview, the film asks each of its subjects to respond to the prompt: "When I think about my mother..." in terms of familial mother, inner mother, archetypal mother, and Mother Earth.
Shot in breathtaking mountainous and oceanic landscapes across Colorado and California, mother : un/tethered weaves the female body into the body of the earth, drawing a through-line between the way we treat our mothers and the way we treat the planet that sustains us. The film asks: what do we take for granted? What have we forgotten to honor? And what becomes possible when we finally stop and acknowledge what and who we cannot live without?

Open Rehearsal
This August HOLDTIGHT is beginning work on a new performance piece. We are doing a creative residency to begin exploring the early seedling of a new work that’s centering harmful consumerism.
Curious to see HOLDTIGHT's rehearsal process in action? How we develop work? How we take ecological and psychological research and translate it into artistic content?
If yes, come join us for an Open Rehearsal where you'll get a sneak-peak into our creative process.
Artistic Director Gwendolyn Gussman has been researching this topic for the past year+ and this month we start translating all of her research and conceptual work into tangible, alive, in-person, artistic practice with a few of HT’s longest-term collaborators. This will look like lots of devising and meaningful play with zero pressure of a show at the end. A true creative residency.
On Tuesday, August 19th from 4-5:30pm at the Buntport Theater we will open the doors of our creative process in an open rehearsal format. This will NOT be an informal performance, rather an actual rehearsal that any of you who are interested are welcome to come join us and sit in on, watching our process of development— that being said, you may know that our work is often participatory, so while we don’t want to make any promises, there may be elements for you to literally get involved (but absolutely not necessary for wanting to just witness what we are developing).

Process + Express Class
Process + Express guides attendees through an abbreviated version of HOLDTIGHT’s unique creation process. Incorporating physical movement, meditation, prompted writing, and open dialogue, participants delve into questions surrounding the beliefs that hold us back from change, our wishes for the future, and how all of this relates to our balance & relationship with the earth. Participants will find openings for exciting and fulfilling ways to discover creative material from their personal, lived experiences and receive glimmers of how that fits into our greater, collective world.
Process + Express is designed for bodies who want to move and explore, for individuals interested in developing new tools to use in their creative practice, and for those wanting to dive into the intersection between art, personal narrative, community, and nature. All are welcome.
These classes are offered sliding-scale and accessible to all bodies and levels (you do not need to be a dancer or artist to come!) Come and join us at Washington Street Community Center (Denver, 80209) for a class filled with connection, creativity, sharing, and artistic expression. We can't wait to see you there!
