Pop-Up Performances
In our pop-up performances we use a mixture of artistic mediums to create a new work wholly inspired by an art work/installation in a gallery space/museum/school/restaurant, etc. It is our quickest of processes, where HOLDTIGHT designs a new show based on a pre-existing piece of work to shed more light on how the mixing of artistic mediums can stir curiosity and inform the work on both sides in unique ways.
Here’s a few examples of our of our past Pop-Up’s:
At the Line is a durational, interactive, and site-responsive dance-theater work exploring the boundary between structure and chaos. A lead performer, guided by a ticking metronome and reedy live accordion, cues a small ensemble through set phrase work and spontaneous actions. As the piece unfolds, the audience joins in through simple, directed improvisation, and order dissolves into chaos and rapturous joy.
At the Line was initially created in response to and inspired by the artwork of Ronny Quevedo as part of the Movements Toward Freedom exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, CO between September-December 2024. HOLDTIGHT was invited by MCA & Presenting Denver to create a new, durational piece based on Quevedo’s floor installation, At the Line Premiere performances: September 28th, December 7th, and December 8th, 2024 at the MCA Denver, CO.
